The Democratic Party will hold a four-round party nomination process over two weeks to select its candidate on April 27 for the presidential election, with the party set to receive official bids from aspirants, officials said Tuesday.
South Korea will hold a presidential election June 3 after former President Yoon Suk Yeol was removed from office over his failed martial law bid in December.
Former DP leader Lee Jae-myung, who declared his presidential bid last week, was leading the race for the presidency of South Korea with nearly 49 percent support, according to a recent poll.
The Realmeter poll showed Lee topped the list with 48.8 percent, with former Labor Minister Kim Moon-soo, who joined the People Power Party, coming next with 10.9 percent.
Online voting for the primaries will be held across four regions: Chungcheong from April 16-19, Gyeongsang from April 17-20, Jeolla from April 23-26 and the greater Seoul area from April 24-27.
The public electoral college will cast their votes over two days sometime between April 21 and 27. The final candidate will be confirmed April 27. (Yonhap)
