Paris Saint-Germain have claimed the opening leg of the UEFA Champions League quarterfinals against Aston Villa with their South Korean midfielder Lee Kang-in on the bench.

PSG netted three unanswered goals after conceding the match's first marker in their 3-1 victory at Parc des Princes in the French capital Wednesday. PSG can move on to the semifinals with a draw or a one-goal loss in the return leg next Tuesday in Birmingham, England.

Morgan Rogers opened the scoring for the visiting English side in the 35th minute, but Desire Doue got the equalizer for PSG four minutes later.

Khvicha Kvaratskhelia scored the go-ahead goal four minutes after the restart, and Nuno Mendes rounded out the scoring for the winning team during additional time.

PSG clinched their fourth consecutive domestic title in Ligue 1 over the weekend and are in the final of the French Cup scheduled for May 24.

Lee was on the squad list after being off the team entirely in the past three matches but did not see any action. Lee suffered an ankle injury while playing for South Korea in a World Cup qualifying match March 20 and has not taken the field for PSG since then.

Even before the injury, though, Lee had seen his playing time decrease. He has not played a full match since the round of 16 at the French Cup on Feb. 4 and has made only two starts in his past nine appearances for PSG.

Lee is one of two South Korean players still alive in the UEFA Champions League, alongside Kim Min-jae of Bayern Munich.

Bayern lost their opening leg of the quarterfinals against Inter Milan 2-1 in Munich on Tuesday. (Yonhap)
