The presidential office on Thursday welcomed the Constitutional Court's decision to reject impeachments of the chief state auditor and senior prosecutors.
The office issued a statement after the court unanimously dismissed impeachments of Choe Jae-hae, chair of the Board of Audit and Inspection, as well as Lee Chang-soo, chief of the Seoul Central District Prosecutors Office, and two other senior prosecutors.
"The Constitutional Court dismissed all four cases of impeachment motions that lacked clear grounds, sending a strong warning against the opposition party's excessive use of impeachment," the presidential spokesperson's office said in a release.
"We hope that public officials will swiftly return to their duties so that state affairs can be normalized as soon as possible," it added.
Choe had been impeached by the opposition-led National Assembly in December over his alleged poor review of suspected irregularities surrounding the 2022 relocation of the presidential office and residence.
The three prosecutors were also impeached that same month after being accused of failing to indict first lady Kim Keon Hee following an investigation into her alleged involvement in a stock price manipulation scheme. (Yonhap)
