Pope Francis’ memoir, the first-ever by a sitting pope, will be published in Korean on March 13.
The autobiography “Hope: The Autobiography,” six years in the making, was already published in 18 languages in January.
“Hope,” a 524-page compendium exploring the pope’s childhood memories, reflects on the world as seen by the son of Italian immigrants to Buenos Aires, Argentina. It also offers insight into his reform-minded thinking on major political and social issues.
His aversion to war is communicated when he writes, “Anyone who makes war is evil. God is peace,” a reflection the pope attributes to the wartime experiences of his grandfather in World War I.
The pope has called Russia’s aggression in Ukraine “a senseless massacre.”
“Hope” was originally planned as a posthumous publication, but the release date was changed to coincide with the 2025 Jubilee. Pope John Paul II announced the 2025 Jubilee at the end of the 2000 Great Jubilee.
