
Trot singer Song Dae-kwan has passed away at the age of 78.
According to local reports, Song experienced sudden pain in the early hours of the morning and was rushed to the emergency room at Seoul National University Hospital, where he could not be revived. The cause of death was given as cardiac arrest.
Song's funeral will be held at Seoul National University Hospital.
Born in 1946, Song debuted in 1967 and rose to nationwide fame in 1975 with the hit song “Sunny Day.” Trot is especially popular among older listeners in Korea, characterized by lively rhythms and abundant vibrato.
Song has been referred to as one of the "four kings of trot," along with Tae Jin-ah, Hyun Cheol and Seol Woon-do.
