Eyes on whether Woo will meet with President Xi

Woo Won-shik, the speaker of South Korea's National Assembly, is meeting with high-level officials in China this week, possibly including Chinese President Xi Jinping.
The speaker's office on Wednesday said Woo was slated to hold a series of meetings with top Chinese officials, including Zhao Leji, the chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress of China.
The speaker's office said Woo would be discussing ways to strengthen economic cooperation between the two countries and expand South Korean businesses' presence in China.
Woo, who is in China from Feb. 5-9 to attend the Asian Winter Games in Harbin, was also speculated to meet with Xi, according to a local report that the speaker's office has declined to confirm.
"During his visit, the speaker of the Assembly will focus on addressing perceived uncertainties surrounding South Korea by communicating the parliament's efforts to restore democracy following the martial law situation," the speaker's office said.
Woo, a former Democratic Party of Korea member of the Assembly, has been looking to expand his diplomatic activities since the Assembly voted to impeach President Yoon Suk Yeol, suspending him from office, over his martial law declaration last December.
Woo is accompanied by a bipartisan delegation of lawmakers including Democratic Party of Korea Reps. Kim Tae-nyeon, Park Jeung, Kim Yong-man; People Power Party Reps. Lee Hun-seung and Bae Hyun-jin; and Rebuilding Korea Party Rep. Shin Chang-sik.
