Ahn Eun Me Dance Company, the South Korean contemporary dance troupe led by choreographer Ahn Eun-me, will embark on an eight-city tour across the UK in February and March with its visually striking production, “Dragons,” according to Dance Consortium.
Celebrated for her avant-garde choreography, Ahn blends dance, music, holograms and her signature vivid costumes in “Dragons,” a kaleidoscopic production that fuses modern and traditional dance styles from across Asia.
Premiered in 2021, “Dragons” is one of Ahn’s latest works. Ahn and seven dancers perform in a shifting theatrical landscape, featuring writhing silver vacuum hoses and dynamic projections of forests and skies.
Joining them on stage -- via hologram -- are five dancers from Korea, Malaysia, Japan, Indonesia and Taiwan, all born in 2000, the Year of the Dragon.
The production’s music is composed by music director Jang Young-gyu of the alternative pop band Leenalchi.
The tour kicks off in Southampton on Feb. 24-25, followed by performances in Canterbury, Brighton, Milton Keynes, Newcastle, Inverness and Bradford before finishing in Birmingham on March 25-26.
The tour is organized in collaboration with Dance Consortium, a network of 21 UK and Irish theaters dedicated to bringing the best contemporary dance to local audiences.
Meanwhile, Ahn is also set to premiere her latest work "Post-Orientalist Express" in Seoul in May, a co-production with Sejong Center for the Performing Arts and Berliner Festspiele.
