Leading virtual K-pop group arouses curiosity with cinematic promotion

Plave has kicked off a unique promotional campaign leading up to the release of the Korean virtual idol group's third mini album, "Caligo Pt. 1," on Feb. 3.
The group has partnered with the CGV cinema chain nationwide to create an immersive experience for fans. The CGV website and app now feature a promotional page designed to look like a movie ticketing platform, with teaser images for "Caligo Pt. 1" that resemble movie posters.
The posters showcase a ruined cityscape and evoke a dark vibe reminiscent of blockbuster fantasy films, sparking curiosity about the album's concept and its accompanying music video.
The country's largest multiplex, CGV began distributing "Caligo Pt. 1" comeback posters at 25 cinemas across the country Tuesday. Overwhelming demand resulted in some locations running out of posters within hours. During the Lunar New Year holiday next week, several CGV cinemas in Yongsan, Yeongdeungpo, Wangsimni and Gangnam in Seoul will display video teasers on their massive LED screens, offering glimpses into the music video.
Having debuted in March 2023, the five-member group has carved out a unique niche in K-pop, achieving several remarkable milestones and cementing its position as one of the most successful virtual idol groups to date.
"Caligo Pt. 1" marks a return for Plave after a five-month hiatus, following the release of the digital single "Pump Up the Volume!" in August. The single debuted at the top of Melon’s Hot 100 and Top 100 charts on the day of its release. Plave also set an impressive milestone, surpassing 1 billion cumulative streams across all the group's tracks and entering Melon’s prestigious “Billions Club” in record time.
