Rising jazz star with 3 Grammy awards to perform in Seoul in February

American jazz vocalist Samara Joy, a three-time Grammy Award winner, is set to perform in Korea for the first time.
The concert organizer, Joy will take the stage at 6:30 p.m., Feb. 16 at the Art Hall Mac of Mapo Art Center, Seoul, according to Jazz Bridge Company, the concert organizer,
The performance will primarily feature tracks from her third studio album, "Portrait," released in October last year, along with some unreleased songs. Except for the bassist, her original band members from the album will join her onstage.
Joy gained widespread recognition with her second studio album, "Linger Awhile," released in 2022, which earned her the best new artist and best jazz vocal album awards at the 65th Grammy Awards in 2023. She was the first jazz artist to win best new artist since Esperanza Spalding in 2011. In 2024, she secured her third Grammy with a win for best jazz performance with the track "Tight" at the 66th Grammy Awards.
Joy has been nominated in two categories for the 67th Grammy Awards, scheduled for Feb. 2. Her album "Joyful Holiday"is up for best jazz vocal album and her performance of "Twinkle Twinkle Little Me" has been nominated for best jazz performance.
Before her official debut, Joy won the Thelonious Monk Vocal Jazz Competition in 2015 and later claimed victory at the 2019 Sarah Vaughan International Jazz Vocal Competition, officially launching her career. She released her self-titled debut album, "Samara Joy," in 2021.
