Hyundai Motor Co. said Wednesday it seeks to sell at least 58,000 units of its newly facelifted Palisade SUV in the domestic market by leveraging its hybrid and new nine-seat variants.
The newly overhauled Palisade comes six years after the model's debut in November 2018. The 2.5 turbo gasoline version was released Wednesday, while the hybrid model will be available in the second quarter.
The revamped version boasts a longer body and increased interior space compared to its predecessor, offering improved comfort and functionality.
"Given the strong preorder numbers, we are confident of meeting the goal of 58,000 units (at home this year)," Lee Chul-min, head of Hyundai's domestic marketing division, said during a media event held Tuesday in Seongnam, just south of Seoul.
The target surpasses the first-generation Palisade's debut success of moving 52,299 units in its first year at home.
Regarding preorders, the latest Palisade SUV recorded 33,567 contracts on the first day alone on Dec. 20. The total preorders have reached around 45,000.
A key highlight of the new model is the addition of a nine-seat variant. The seating arrangement uses the space created by folding back the console between the driver and front passenger seats, enabling a practical configuration for diverse needs.
"We wanted the concept of this car to focus on inclusivity, enabling it to adapt to different types of families and lifestyles," Jeon Eun-seok, the project lead of the model, said.
The hybrid variant introduces Hyundai's next-generation 2.5 turbo system for the first time, delivering a maximum output of 334 horsepower, boasting a driving range of over 1,000 kilometers on a single tank of fuel, based on internal measurements. (Yonhap)
