Acting President Choi Sang-mok on Thursday pledged to focus efforts on normalizing state affairs and addressing uncertainties in the South Korean economy amid lingering domestic political turmoil.
"The inauguration of the new administration of the United States, combined with the domestic political situation, is increasing the uncertainty surrounding our economy," Choi said in a meeting with economy-related ministers.
"I reiterate my commitment to the public that the government will focus all policy efforts on promptly normalizing state affairs and the economy," the acting president added.
Choi also emphasized that, given the consistently changing external and internal circumstances, the government will hold weekly meetings on state affairs, serving as the "control tower" for state policies.
"All ministries and Cabinet members will work as a single team to enhance communication and strengthen the cooperative system," he said.
Choi added that the government is reviewing designating Jan. 27 as a temporary holiday to promote domestic travel.
If confirmed, this year's Lunar New Year holiday will be extended to six days, spanning Jan. 25 to 30. (Yonhap)
