Korean-American singer-songwriter Michelle Chongmi Zauner, who leads Japanese Breakfast, is set to return with a new full-length album after four years.

Japanese Breakfast will release its fourth studio album, "For Melancholy Brunettes (& sad women)," on March 21. The album was recorded at the renowned Sound City studio in Los Angeles and produced by Grammy Award winner Blake Mills, who has collaborated with music legends such as Bob Dylan and Fiona Apple.

The upcoming album is expected to contrast with the bright and upbeat sound of Japanese Breakfast's previous work, "Jubilee," released in 2021.

American independent record label Dead Oceans described "For Melancholy Brunettes (& sad women)" as "a mature, intricate, contemplative work that conjures the romantic thrill of a gothic novel," emphasizing its exploration of humanity's darker and melancholic inner depths.

Following the album release, Japanese Breakfast will embark on its first tour in three years since 2022. It kicks off with performances at the Coachella Music and Arts Festival on April 12 and 19.

Born to an American father and a Korean mother, Zauner is not only a vocalist, guitarist, and songwriter but also the bestselling author of her memoir, "Crying in H Mart." In 2022, she was nominated for the best new artist and best alternative album awards at the Grammy Awards for her 3rd album "Jubilee."
