Dongbu Promy forward Yun Ho-young (Yonhap News)
Dongbu Promy forward Yun Ho-young was named MVP of the Korean Basketball League, while Anyang KGC center Oh Se-keun took the Best Rookie award on Monday.
The 28-year-old Yun got 51 of 80 votes in the poll to beat out rookie center Oh, who received 17 votes.
But Oh garnered 72 votes to be named the best rookie of the 2011-2012 KBL season.
“I really thank my family for their support,” said Yun, who won a trophy for the first time in his professional career.
Yun, who debuted with Dongbu in 2008, has never been in the spotlight while playing in the shadow of the country’s best-known forward Kim Joo-sung.
But the player in his fourth year in the league had his best season this year, averaging 12.5 points and 5.2 rebounds, helping the team win the regular-season title with a 44-10 record.
Yun also led Dongbu to the KBL championship finals for the second consecutive year, only to lose to the Anyang KGC in the best-of-seven series.
Meanwhile, Dongbu’s head coach Kang Dong-hee was voted manager of the year with 78 votes.
