A special Christmas-themed train exclusively for holders of the digital tour ID will operate on Wednesday, according to the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism and the Korea Tourism Organization. The train, which links six regions participating in the digital tour ID program—Jecheon, Danyang, Yeongju, Yeongwol, Jeongseon, and Taebaek—sold out just two days after its release.
The digital tour ID program aims to boost tourism in areas experiencing population decline by offering discounts on accommodations, food, shopping, attractions, and activities. A total of 34 local governments and more than 820 tourism businesses are involved.
The Christmas train will depart from Seoul Station on Wednesday with stops at Cheongnyangni Station, Jecheon, Yeongwol, Mindeungsan Station (Jeongseon), and Taebaek Station. Passengers heading to Yeongju and Danyang will transfer to buses at Jecheon Station.
The travel experience is centered around six unique regional themes—relaxation at Jecheon, scenic nature and attractions in Danyang, a journey through traditional food and culture in Yeongju, a blend of nature and art in a cultural hub Yeongwol, a peaceful retreat in Jeongseon and a snow-covered landscape in Taebaek.
"We created this special product to provide unique benefits to digital tour ID holders. Given the high interest in the exclusive train, we plan to expand the program to all 34 regions next year,” said Lee Sang-min, Director of the National Tourism Division at KTO.
Additionally, KTO is hosting a promotional pop-up booth at Seoul station's second-floor greeting area on Christmas day. The booth will feature a roulette game and a commemorative ceremony for participants before the train departs on Wednesday.
