LS Marine Solution, a South Korean company specializing in submarine cables, is making strides in renewable energy projects through collaboration with its sister firm LS Cable & System, the company said Monday.

The company recently completed the Jeju 3 Interconnection Project, a 90-kilometer submarine cable linking the mainland to Jeju Island. According to the company, the project is the nation’s largest high-voltage direct current submarine cable system to date and ensures a stable electricity supply while supporting growing renewable energy demands.

LS Marine Solution also highlighted its role in the Jeonnam Offshore Wind Power Project, the first phase of which is expected to become the world’s largest offshore wind farm. The project, which aims to generate 8.2 gigawatts of energy by 2035, saw LS Marine Solution managing submarine cable installations in its initial phase.

Expanding beyond offshore activities, the company recently acquired LS Buildwin, a specialist in underground cable construction. This acquisition, the company said, enhances its ability to provide integrated solutions for onshore and offshore projects.

LS Marine Solution and LS Cable & System were also selected as preferred bidders for the Taean Offshore Wind Power Project, a 500-megawatt offshore wind farm led by Singapore-based Vena Energy. Scheduled for completion in 2029, LS Cable & System will supply the submarine cables, while LS Marine Solution will oversee installation.

In the third quarter, the company reported record-breaking results, with sales of 37.4 billion won ($25.8 million) and an operating profit of 7.2 billion won, up 86 percent and 77 percent, respectively, from the same period last year.

“By combining onshore and offshore capabilities, we aim to deliver efficient, cost-effective services while maintaining high quality,” an LS official said.

The company also noted October’s appointment of Kim Byung-ok, a strategic and financial expert from LS Cable & System, as its new CEO.

“With strong leadership and ongoing investments in technology and infrastructure, we are well-positioned to lead South Korea’s renewable energy initiatives,” the official added.
