Prosecutors on Wednesday raided McDonald's Korea's headquarters and three partner companies as part of a probe into allegations that it undercooked burger patties, causing some consumers to get sick.

Investigators searched the main office of McDonald's Korea in central Seoul and its patty suppliers to confiscate evidence, the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office said.

The probe was launched after a complaint was filed in July by a woman who claimed her five-year-old daughter was diagnosed with hemolytic uremic syndrome after eating a Happy Meal burger that came with undercooked meat. She now has to receive dialysis for the rest of her life. A series of similar consumer accusations followed.

Joh Ju-yeon, the chief of McDonald's Korea, expressed regret in a media statement last month. (Yonhap)
