Samsung Electronics Co. said Monday the number of accumulated visitors at its shops in South Korea where people can test the Galaxy S8 smartphones was estimated at 3 million, reflecting the public's attention on the flagship devices.

On Sunday, the company also said a million units of Galaxy S8 smartphones were sold in South Korea as of the previous day, marking a rare occasion for the company to provide updates of flagship device sales. The devices were officially released April 21.

The Galaxy S6 and the Galaxy S7 smartphones reached the million unit sales figure in 75 and 74 days, respectively. Earlier this month, Samsung said the global sales of the Galaxy S8 series came to 5 million units.

Industry watchers said Samsung is focusing on promoting the Galaxy S8 series, apparently to overcome its tainted reputation sparked by the suspended production of the Galaxy Note 7 phablet last year.

The Galaxy Note 7 phablet was short-lived in 2016 due to some of the devices catching fire while charging.
