A former presidential secretary was questioned by prosecutors Tuesday over his alleged involvement in a corruption case surrounding the ongoing construction of a skyscraper in the southern port city of Busan.

Hyun Ki-hwan appeared before the Busan District Prosecutors' Office as a suspect to undergo questioning over the case surrounding LCT, a 101-story building under construction in South Korea's second-largest city.

The 57-year-old, who served as senior presidential secretary for political affairs from July 2015 to June this year, is suspected of giving business favors to Lee Young-bok, who led the mammoth construction project.

"I will truthfully give testimony to investigators," he told reporters, entering the prosecutors' office.

Lee was indicted Monday on charges of siphoning off some tens of billions of won in the process of building the skyscraper overlooking the famous Haeundae Beach.

The case recently came under the spotlight after President Park Geun-hye, who herself is embroiled in a separate corruption scandal, ordered the country's justice minister to thoroughly investigate the allegations being raised over the development work. (Yonhap)
