[THE INVESTOR] LG CNS will build 27-megawatt-hour energy storage systems for wind power generators in Jejudo, the largest of its kind on the island, according to the firm on Sept. 8.

The affiliate of LG Group will establish 18MWh and 9MWh ESSs at the Dongbok-Bukchon wind farm and Gasiri wind farm, respectively, and manage the power storage systems for the next 15 years after the installation.

“The new project to install ESSs at the wind farms will utilize the firm’s technical expertise in energy management system,” said Kim Tae-geuk, executive vice president of the firm, adding that the firm would collaborate with small- and medium-sized energy firms based in the island to vitalize the renewable energy industry in the region.

Aiming to completely run on renewable energy by 2030 in line with its Carbon Free Island 2030 project, Jejudo is trying to adopt ESSs that can store energy generated through the renewable sources such as wind and solar.

Energy technologies of LG Chem and LG Electronics will be deployed for the latest energy project on the island.

LG CNS is a leading ESS and system integration firm in Korea. It has been ranked fourth in the global market for energy management system and system integration, according to market research firm Navigant.
