Samsung Electronics and SK hynix increased their global semiconductor market shares during the first quarter of 2015, data showed Thursday.

According to market research company IHS Technology, Intel had the largest global semiconductor market shares with 13.3 percent, followed by Samsung with 11.2 percent.

Qualcomm had the third-largest market share with 5.2 percent. SK hynix placed fourth with 5.1 percent, followed by Micron with 4.5 percent.

Samsung Electronics’ market share increased by 0.5 percentage point compared to last year, while SK hynix’s increased by 0.6 percentage point. They are the only companies to raise their market shares from last year out of the top five global companies.

Experts said the South Korean chipmakers’ increase in market share was due to improved performance.
