서울가요대상, 엑소 대상 영예 안아

그룹 엑소가 스물세 번째 ‘서가대’의 주인공이 됐다.

엑소는 1월 23일 오후 서울 송파구 잠실동 잠실실내체육관에서 열린 ‘제 23회 하이원 서울가요대상(The 23rd Seoul Music Awards, 이하 서가대)’에서 대상을 수상했다.

엑소는 같은 소속사 선배 샤이니와 포옹을 하며 기쁨을 함께 나눴다. 또한 멤버들 모두가 어깨동무를 하며 의리를 과시했다.

엑소 수호는 “작년에 ‘서가대’에서 신인상을 수상했는데, 올해 대상을 주셔서 정말 감사하다. 이 기분을 포용할 수 있는 말을 많은 것 같다”며 “세훈이랑 타오가 지금고 떨리고 긴장된다 하던데 나 역시 떨리고 긴장된다. 이 자리에 있는 순간도 떨리고 행복하다”고 소감을 전했다.

그는 이어 “2013년 한해 엑소 활동 모든 순간이 떨리고 긴장되고 힘들었던 것 같다. 팬들과 함께 할 수 있어서 행복했다. SM타운 선배님들 엑소 많이 사랑해 주셔서 감사하다”고 덧붙였다.

이밖에도 엑소는 소속사 식구들, 스태프 및 각자의 가족들에게 감사의 인사를 전하며 이날 시상식의 피날레를 장식했다.

엑소는 정규 1집 47만 1570장(6월 3일 출시), 1집 리패키지 53만 6007장(8월 5일 출시) 등 총 100만 7577장의 판매고를 세우며 음반 판매량 100만장 돌파라는 진기록을 수립하는 쾌거를 달성했다.

특히 이번 음반판매량 100만장 돌파 기록은 김건모 7집, 지오디(god) 4집 등이 발표된 2001년 이후 12년만의 성과다.

아울러 엑소는 12월 발매한 겨울 스페셜 음반 '12월의 기적' 판매량 43만장까지 더해 올해 총 음반 판매량으로 약 144만장에 이르는 기염을 토하며 명실공히 2013년을 빛낸 가수로 떠올랐다.

‘서가대’는 음악성, 가창력, 대중성을 기준으로 매년 1월부터 12월까지 한 해 동안 대중들의 사랑을 가장 많이 받은 가수를 선정해 시상하는 음악인들의 축제로 개그맨 서경석, 슈퍼주니어 은혁, 에이핑크 정은지가 진행을 맡았다.

사실 이번에 대상에 대한 기대가 컸던 샤이니는 또다시 대상 트로피를 놓쳤다. 하지만 본상, 하이원 인기상, 한류특별상 등 3관왕에 올라 그 인기를 입증했다.

한편 이날 행사에는 에이핑크, 비원에이포, 비에이피, 방탄소년단, 크레용팝, 빅스, 김예림, 케이윌, 다이나믹 듀오, 더 원, 씨스타, 엑소, 포미닛, 인피니트, 소녀시대, 샤이니, 비스트 등이 출연했다. (헤럴드 생생뉴스)

EXO takes top prize at Seoul Music Awards

K-pop sensation EXO won a top prize at the 23rd Seoul Music Awards on Thursday, outshining 12 competitors including SHINee, Cho Yong-pil and Girls’ Generation.

The idol group also earned awards for the main prize and Digital Song of the Year at the ceremony held at Jamsil Indoor Stadium in Seoul.

“EXO had a tense and difficult year in 2013, but we were happy that we could be with our fans,” said Sooho, team leader of the idol group, expressing his gratitude to his fans and colleagues at SM Entertainment, the group‘s agency.

Another popular K-pop boy band SHINee, which debuted in 2008, four years before EXO, lost the top prize, but won three awards for explosive popularity from fans and their special contribution to the hallyu boom, also known abroad as the Korean Wave.

Long-running star Cho Yong-pil, seen as EXO’s strongest rival in the competition, won the Record of the Year award for “Hello,” his 19th full-length album in 10 years, which was well received by fans of all ages.

EXO, a South Korean-Chinese boy band consisting of 12 members, has enjoyed growing popularity here and in China since making an official debut in early 2012.

Their first full-length album “EP Mama” and repackaged album “XOXO” has sold more than 1.4 million copies worldwide, according to the Gaon chart.

The idol band earned numerous honors in 2013-2014, including Album of the Year at the Mnet Asia Music Awards, song of the year at the Melon Music Awards for their song “Growl,” and top prize at the Golden Disk Awards.
