‘10분만 껌 씹어도 1억마리 세균 사라져’ 연구 결과 나와
최근 네덜란드 그로닌겐 대학의 연구진이 10분만 껌을 씹어도 입 속의 1억마리 세균을 죽일 수 있다는 연구 결과를 발표했다.연구진은 껌을 입에 넣고 씹기 시작한 후 30초 이후부터 세균 억제 효과를 볼 수 있으며 일정 시간 동안 껌을 씹을 경우 치실로 치아를 관리하는 효과를 낼 수 있다고 밝혔다. (123rf)이 실험은 10분 동안 껌을 씹은 뒤 꺼내서 껌 표면에 붙어있는 박테리아들을 전자스캐닝 현미경(scanning-electron-microscopy)으로 관찰하는 방법을 통해 진행됐다.실험 결과, 껌은 입에 들어 갔을 때 실험자 치아 형태에 따라 모양이 변했다. 또 입 속에서 침이 분비되면서 박테리아가 껌에 달라 붙은 것으로 확인됐다.연구진은 무설탕 껌이 가장 효과적이라고 밝혔다. 당도가 높은 껌을 씹거나 10분 이상 지속적으로 껌을 씹을 경우 입 속 세균을 오히려 번식시킬 수 있다고 덧붙였다.
