A 39-year-old man has been arrested without physical detention on charges of circulating sex videos with women whom he met online, police said Monday.

The suspect, only identified by his surname Jin, is accused of having sex with dozens of women whom he met through a chat service and distributing online some 100 pieces of video footage of them engaged in sexual acts between 2003 and 2005, they said.

Police investigators, however, said they would have difficulty in bringing charges against Jin, as statute of limitations have already expired.

Jin was apprehended at a local airport on Tuesday when he attempted to enter the country in an aim to renew his passport, they said. He has been staying in Japan since 2005.

The victims were lured by the suspect, who said he wouldn't "share the video footage with anyone," officers said.

"(The women) agreed to filming the videos, and I destroyed all the files before going to Japan. I had no intention of circulating the videos," Jin was quoted by the officers as saying.

Police, however, said that they suspect Jin had recorded the videos with the intent to distribute them as he manages a file-sharing service based in Japan.
Although the court dismissed the investigators' request to issue an arrest warrant for Jin, the police officers said they will look into the possibility of indicting him on charges of distributing the sex videos. (Yonhap News)

女 수십명과 성관계 영상을 인터넷에!

인터넷 채팅으로 만난 여성 수십명과 성관계를 갖고, 영상을 인터넷에 유포한 혐의를 받고 있는 30대 남성이 체포되었다.

서울 서초 경찰서는 음란 동영상 제작 및 인터넷 유포 혐의로 (정통망법 위반 등) 진모 (39)를 체포했다고 26일 밝혔다. 그는 2003년에서 2005년 사이에 만난 여성들의 영상 100여편을 유포한 혐의를 받고 있다.

그러나 관련 혐의의 공소시효가 만료된데다가 피해 여성들의 증언 역시 부족해 경찰은 수사에 어려움을 겪고 있다.

진씨는 2005년 이래 일본에서 거주하다가 여권 기간을 연장하기 위해 지난 20일 입국했다가 공항에서 체포되었다.

경찰 관계자들에 따르면 진씨는 피해자들에게 “아무도 보여주지 않겠다”고 설득한 다음 영상을 찍었다고 한다. 진씨는 “동영상 촬영에 상대가 동의했고 일본에 가기 전 영상 파일을 모두 폐기하는 등 유포 의도는 없었다”고 진술한 것으로 알려졌다.

그러나 경찰은 진씨가 일본에 서버를 둔 유료 사이트를 직접 관리하며 해당 영상을 배포, 부당이득을 취한 것으로 미뤄 미리 음란물을 퍼트릴 계획이었던 것으로 보고 있다.

법원은 진씨의 대한 구속 영장을 기각했으나, 경찰은 “동영상 유포 혐의와 함께 도피성 여부를 밝혀 기소의견으로 검찰에 송치하는데 노력하고 있다”고 밝혔다.
