SOCHI, Russia (Yonhap) ― Kim Yu-na will begin her Olympic title defense this week in the middle of the pack in the ladies’ short program.
At a draw for the pairings held Monday at the Iceberg Skating Palace, Kim picked No. 17 among 30 skaters in action in the short program. The ladies’ singles will begin with the short program on Wednesday.
The 30 skaters were divided into five groups of six. The top 12 ranked skaters were first paired into the final two groups, while those ranked between 13th and 15th were slotted into the final three spots in the third group.
Kim will take to the ice at 9:24 p.m. on Wednesday in Sochi, or 2:24 a.m. on Thursday in South Korea.
