SEHOTECH, a small domestic supplier of fine chemicals, is aiming to become the world’s top company in the field of recycling technology.

The Gimhae-based company, which first commercialized the technology to recycle polyurethane foam, has seen continued growth for years, according to company officials.

Used polyurethane foam had been a source of environmental pollution as it emits high levels of carbon dioxide in the process of disposal. But SEHOTECH claims that its recycling technology, developed over years of experience and expertise, has provided a viable solution.

The foam can be recycled into polyester polyol at a low cost while maintaining the same quality as that yielded from refined materials, according to the company.

Moreover, the company maintains its competitive edge through the production of tin-free and nontoxic metal catalysts that are being supplied to major shoemakers such as Nike, Adidas, Puma and others.

Part of the company’s success comes from having habitually invested 10 percent of its revenue into R&D, the result being such groundbreaking technology, in addition to its active trade and export to many countries that have signed an FTA with Korea.

SEHOTECH entered the global market in 1991 and is doing business with 50 companies across 35 countries, the company said. It raised 12.4 billion won ($11.7 million) in sales last year ― 90 percent of which are from exports.

The company, having recently entered into contracts with companies in the Czech Republic, Hungary and Poland, aims to grow into a strong global leader.
