SK Innovation, the holding company of SK Group’s energy-related businesses, will be showcasing more than 10 latest energy technologies and products during the 22nd World Energy Congress that kicked off in Daegu on Sunday.

“We are looking forward to showing SK Innovation’s state-of-the-art energy technologies as a world-class energy company,” SK Innovation, the nation’s largest oil refinery, said.

The World Energy Congress is organized by the World Energy Council, a non-government energy organization based in London. The WEC has about 3,000 member companies from 92 countries worldwide.

The energy company, the only Korean host-sponsor of the global energy convention, set up an exclusive pavilion to exhibit futuristic energy products and technologies ― largely applied to automobiles ― including rechargeable electrical car batteries and thin-film solar cells. These are the big energy buzzwords of today, SK Innovation added.

The pavilion was constructed with the slogan “Tech-driven Innovation Company” in mind, and puts together SK Innovation’s five-decade corporate history and its future vision for the next 50 years.

Displayed items include new materials, such as lithium-ion battery separator and flexible copper clad laminate used in smartphones, as well as electric car batteries.

At the center of the pavilion will be automobiles and visual clips that explain the new technologies, some of which are still in the course of development.

The highlights of the SK Innovation’s exhibitions are the medium- and large-sized electric car batteries, in addition to tri-acetyl-cellulose films that are used in the navigation displays for automobiles.

The company’s two signature pro-environment technologies, “green-pol” and “green-coal,” will also be showcased.

Green-pol technology is used in manufacturing environment-friendly plastic made with carbon dioxide, which has long been blamed for global warming. Green-coal technology is used in converting low-quality coal into high-quality synthetic oil, synthetic natural gas and chemicals.

In addition to automobile-related energy technologies, the company’s enhanced oil recovery technology, which increases the yields of petroleum from oil fields, is being introduced in detail. The company’s oil projects span over 24 oil fields in 16 countries worldwide.

Products of SK affiliates, such as the natural bio fuel of SK Energy, the high-end lubricant Yubase of SK Lubricants and the high-performance synthetic rubber of SK Global Chemical will be on display as well.

The exhibition will be more than just displays of technologies and products, SK Innovation said, as the company will stage a variety of events, including a quiz show and multimedia performances using tablet PCs, relating to SK Innovation’s marketing concept “ASK.”
