Bahrain has submitted a report on its implementation of the latest United Nations sanctions on North Korea, becoming the first country to do so.

According to the report posted on the page of the UN's sanctions committee on North Korea as of Wednesday, Bahrain said its National Committee has transmitted the provisions of UN Security Council Resolution 2375, as well as three preceding sanctions resolutions, to all ministries and government actors for implementation.

The UN council adopted Resolution 2375 on Sept. 11 in response to North Korea's sixth nuclear test about a week earlier. The resolution imposed restrictions on North Korea's imports of refined petroleum and oil, and banned the country's exports of textiles.

"All airlines and land, sea and air crossings in Bahrain have been instructed to implement all of the relevant provisions of the resolutions, including the travel ban and the requirement to seek out, detect and confiscate prohibited items," the report said.

Bahrain's chamber of industry and commerce, the oil and gas authority, the ministry of industry, trade and travel, and banks and financial institutions have also been instructed to implement the resolutions, the report said.

Bahrain's National Committee is "periodically monitoring the situation in order to ensure that the provisions of the resolutions are implemented comprehensively and continuously," according to the report.

"The Kingdom of Bahrain is committed to the Security Council resolutions adopted under the Chapter VII of the Charter of the United Nations concerning sanctions on the Democratic People's Republic of Korea," it also said.

As of Wednesday, Bahrain was the only country that has submitted a report on the implementation of Resolution 2375 for which UN member states are required to report the implementation by mid-December. (Yonhap)
