South Korea's ruling Saenuri Party will hold an in-house election Friday to pick a new floor leader, which will have a decisive impact on the balance of power in its bitter factional fight.

Candidates from both President Park Geun-hye loyalists and her dissenters will compete in the election, which was triggered by the resignation of Rep. Chung Jin-suk earlier this week, taking responsibility for the impeachment and party feud.

From the anti-Park group, four-term lawmaker Rep. Na Kyung-won is running for floor leader and three-term lawmaker Rep. Kim Se-yeon for policy panel chief. The pro-Park faction supports Rep.

Chung Woo-taik and Rep. Lee Hyun-jae as candidates for floor leader and policy chief, respectively.

The Park-loyalist campaign has been claiming Saenuri must seek a unity, while the dissenters focused on promoting plans to bring reforms. (Yonhap)
