Twice’s Dahyun will play the female lead in an upcoming high school romance, distributor Takeone Company said Wednesday.

“Gureumi Gureumi” (an English title has not been announced) follows two high school students as they fall in love for the first time. Dahyun plays Gu-reum, a girl paralyzed from the waist down who has spent her whole life in a wheelchair. Co-star Cha Woo-min plays a promising swimmer who grows close to her during volunteer work.

Choi Sun-min, who co-directed the JTBC series “King the Land,” “Miss Night and Day” and “Surely Tomorrow,” will direct. Shooting is underway, with a release planned for next year.

Dahyun leaped into acting last year with her big-screen debut as the female lead in “You Are the Apple of My Eye,” a Korean remake of the 2011 Taiwanese romance.

She has since played a track athlete in “Run to You” and an aspiring novelist in the series “Love Me,” a remake of the Swedish show “Alska mig.”

Cha is known for his roles in the high school action series “Weak Hero Class 1” and “Study Group.” The actor most recently appeared in tvN’s “My Bias, My Boss.”
