Yoon Chang-bin, a photojournalist for The Korea Herald, has won an award from the Korea Press Photographers' Association for his portrait of Korean American stand-up comedian Danny Cho.
The association announced Tuesday that Yoon received an excellence award in the portrait category of its 284th Photo of the Month Awards, part of the third-quarter selections covering the 283rd through 285th editions.
The award-winning photograph accompanied The Korea Herald's Aug. 20 interview with Cho, titled "The Reluctant Architect of Korean Stand-up." The interview explored how Cho, a former financial consultant who moved to South Korea in 2017, became a leading figure in the country's emerging stand-up comedy scene.
Taken during the interview at Herald Square in Seoul on Aug. 13, the photograph shows the comedian holding a microphone against a vivid pink background, with four additional microphones extending toward him from different directions.
The carefully staged composition creates a playful, almost theatrical effect, reflecting the humor and spontaneity of stand-up comedy while placing Cho at the center of attention.
The Korea Press Photographers' Association selects its monthly award winners from photographs submitted by approximately 500 photojournalists working for newspapers and news agencies nationwide.
Entries are evaluated across six categories: news, sports, feature, nature, story and portrait.
