Amid a continued rise in global demand, prices of Korean dried seaweed products have climbed to a record high, extending a steep increase into a third consecutive year.

According to price data released on Sunday by the Korea Agro-Fisheries & Food Trade Corporation, the average retail price of mid-grade dried seaweed stood at 1,515 won ($1.04) per 10 sheets as of late January.

This marked the first time the average retail price per bundle has surpassed 1,500 won.

The domestic prices have continued to rise in recent years amid increasing exports. Last year, Korea’s dried seaweed exports totaled 106.99 million bundles (each containing 100 sheets), up 13.7 percent from the previous year.
