According to the Daegu fire department, the exercise was designed to expose trainees to surging flames and rapidly changing interior conditions to help sharpen their on-site decision-making and emergency response skills.

Inside a mock housing unit, participating firefighters monitored flame and smoke behavior to assess fire spread as well as practice entry, safety management and command-and-control operations.
