South Korea's Marine Corps Commandant Ju Il-suk will meet with his counterparts from Thailand, Indonesia and the Philippines on Tuesday to discuss ways to strengthen security in the region and expand military cooperation with the nations.

Royal Thai Marine Corps Commandant Apichat Sapprasert and the chiefs of Marine Corps in Indonesia and the Philippine Marine Corps, Endi Supardi and Vicente Map Blanco III, respectively, are scheduled to visit the Marine Corps headquarters in Hwaseong, just south of Seoul, later in the day, according to the armed service.

The commandants are expected to discuss ways to expand military diplomacy and the participation of multinational forces in joint drills amid the growing importance of maritime security in the region.

South Korea's Marine Corps has been taking part in joint drills conducted in the Southeast Asian nations with the aim of enhancing interoperability with their forces. (Yonhap)
