HD Hyundai Hope Foundation announced Tuesday that it will provide livelihood support to bereaved families affected by serious industrial disasters.
The foundation held a donation ceremony at the HD Hyundai Heavy Industries' reception hall in Dong-gu, Ulsan, where it delivered support funds to bereaved families.
This year, nine households were selected, with each to receive monthly assistance based on family composition for one year. The foundation will review the program annually to determine whether to extend the support.
Established in September 2024, the foundation is the first in South Korea dedicated to assisting families of victims of major shipyard disasters.
It was launched following the initiative of HD Hyundai Chair Kwon Oh-gap, who donated part of his personal wealth, emphasizing the group's social responsibility as the world's leading shipbuilder.
In addition to livelihood support, the foundation provides scholarships for children of bereaved families, living stability funds, medical expense coverage and legal aid. Earlier in February, it awarded scholarships to three children.
HD Hyundai Hope Foundation Chair Lee Ki-kwon expressed his deep condolences to the families. "We will continue to provide support so that they do not lose hope even amid economic hardship, and to look into the needs of the families."
