A fire broke out around 3:35 a.m. on Sunday in an apartment unit in Sincheon-dong, Dong-gu, Daegu, killing a mother and her two children in what appears to be a case of arson. The father was reportedly not home at the time of the blaze.

Firefighters extinguished the blaze in 19 minutes. Of the three victims, two teenage children were found inside the apartment, and their mother was found on the ground outside, apparently having fallen from the balcony. Three other residents of the apartment building suffered minor smoke inhalation.

Authorities suspect arson, as multiple ignition points were found, though further investigation is needed.
