[THE INVESTOR] Samsung Electronics’ new smartwatch Gear S3 will make its debut in Berlin on Aug. 31.
The Korean tech giant on Aug. 16 sent an invitation to media, suppliers and developers for the launch event to be held on the sidelines of the annual IFA electronics trade show.
According to industry sources, the new Samsung smartwatch is expected to come in two editions -- the Gear S3 Classic and Frontier.
Both models will feature the signature round watch face with a rotating bezel that allows users to navigate the menu. They will also be compatible with mobile payment solution Samsung Pay, supporting both magnetic secure transmission and near-field communication technologies.
Continuing the two-track strategy, the Classic will utilize a conventional wristwatch design while the Frontier will feature a more futuristic and modern styling. The company has filed trademarks for both with Korea’s patent office.
