Lee Sang-hoon, the father of a 12-year-old boy who died when a car suddenly accelerated and ran into a drainage ditch in Gangneung, Gangwon Province, in December 2022, holds a solo protest in front of Gangneung Station, protesting a court decision on the fatal crash widely known as the "Gangneung sudden acceleration case."

The Chuncheon District Court on May 13 dismissed all claims of the bereaved family in a lawsuit filed against vehicle manufacturer KG Mobility. The family had sought 920 million won in compensation, claiming the accident was caused by a sudden, unintended acceleration of the vehicle, a fault on the side of the automaker.

The fatal crash had gained much public attention after a black box video was released, showing the victim's grandmother, who was driving, repeatly shouting, “Why isn’t this working, Do-hyun?”

Lee Do-hyun, who was seated in the backseat, died in the crash, while the grandmother survived. Police later cleared her of criminal responsibility, judging that the incident appeared to be caused by sudden acceleration.
