Korean soju is gaining global popularity, with exports surpassing $200 million for the first time last year, according to the Korea Customs Service. The positive trend continued in 2025, with exports in both January and February showing a 0.5 percent increase in overall sales.

The expansion of Hallyu and the growing preference for low-alcohol beverages have contributed to the rising interest in high-quality Korean liquor, which has fueled the growth in soju exports.

In total, the export volume reached a record high of 124,000 metric tons, reflecting a 4.2 percent increase from the previous year. Regular soju accounted for a larger share (51.9 percent) compared to fruit-flavored soju (48.1 percent).

The rapid rise of fruit-flavored soju has been particularly noteworthy. Known for its mild taste and diverse flavors, this variety saw its export value reach a record $96 million last year.

Soju was exported to 95 countries, with the top destinations being the United States, China and Japan.
