South Korea and Japan held their inaugural talks on critical mineral cooperation in Tokyo on Thursday, with an aim to stabilize the supply chain for advanced industries, Seoul's industry ministry said.
Industry officials from the two countries discussed expanding bilateral collaboration on critical mineral supply chains, including mineral reserves and joint production of such materials, according to the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy.
The two sides agreed to bolster their efforts to jointly develop and produce critical minerals with third party nations in Latin America, Asia and Africa to reduce supply chain risks, as the materials play a crucial role in semiconductor, battery and other advanced industries.
Seoul and Tokyo, both major importers of critical minerals, will also work together to stabilize the global critical mineral supply chain through international partnerships, according to the ministry. (Yonhap)
