South Korea’s military strength ranks fifth in the world, maintaining its position from the previous year, according to a recent report.
Global Firepower, a military assessment group, released its annual ranking with the United States at the top, holding a Power Index score of 0.0744, followed by Russia, China and India. A lower Power Index score indicates stronger military power.
South Korea scored 0.1656 on the scale, securing fifth place. The country first entered the top 10 in 2011, ranking seventh, and has since climbed to fifth in 2024.
North Korea’s ranking has also improved, moving up two spots to 34th in the world.
The report evaluates the military strength of 145 nations, though experts note its limitations, as it focuses only on conventional weapons and does not account for nuclear or cyber warfare capabilities.
