A stabbing at a Daejeon elementary school Monday evening left an eight-year-old student dead and a teacher injured, who later confessed to the killing, Daejeon Seobu police said.

The student and teacher were found with stab wounds on the school's second floor at around 6 p.m. in Daejeon's Seo-gu. The student was pronounced dead at a local hospital.

The teacher, who sustained neck and arm wounds, reportedly remains in stable condition. According to local media, the teacher confessed to the crime to authorities before entering surgery for suspected self-inflicted wounds.

Police plan to continue their investigation after the operation concludes.
