[THE INVESTOR] Korean tech giants Samsung Electronics and LG Electronics have a combined share 0f 49 percent in the second-quarter smartphone market in North America, according to a market research firm on Aug. 3.
Samsung’s market share in North America gained 5 percentage points on quarter to 32.7 percent for the April-June quarter, according to Strategy Analytics.
In contrast, Apple’s share fell to 24.5 percent for the second quarter, from 32.6 percent a quarter earlier.
It was the first time in two years that Samsung overtook Apple as the No. 1 vendor in quarterly smartphone sales in North America.
LG came in third with a market share of 16.3 percent in North America.
Chinese brand ZTE ranked fourth with a share of 9.5 percent, and TCL and Alcatel jointly came in fifth with a share of 4.6 percent each.
