Hanwha Group Vice Chairman Kim Dong-kwan explores defense, shipbuilding cooperation with top US officials in Washington DC

Hanwha Group Vice Chairman Kim Dong-kwan met with top US officials under the new Trump administration to bolster the Korean conglomerate’s global network as he attended the US president's inauguration ceremony in Washington DC earlier this week.
According to Hanwha on Wednesday, Kim participated in a candlelight dinner at the National Building Museum the day before the ceremony, where he held conversations with Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Defense Secretary nominee Pete Hegseth and National Security Adviser Mike Waltz.
The Hanwha leader, who has taken the helm of the conglomerate’s defense and shipbuilding affiliates such as Hanwha Aerospace and Hanwha Ocean, introduced their business capabilities to the high-ranking US defense and security officials. He also discussed Hanwha’s business opportunities in the US as Korea-US cooperation in the defense and shipbuilding sectors is expected to expand under the second Trump administration.
Hanwha added that Kim met with Interior Secretary nominee Doug Burgum to share opinions on the new administration’s energy policies as Hanwha Ocells gears up to complete the construction of a solar panel production plant in Georgia before the end of this year.
On top of meeting the top US officials, Kim also held talks with various members of the US Senate and the House of Representatives as well as CEOs of global defense companies.
