Samsung Electronics on Wednesday unveiled its flagship Galaxy S25 smartphone lineup, equipped with upgraded artificial intelligence features, camera functions and faster processors. The company says the device has opened “the advanced mobile artificial intelligence era.”

The South Korean tech giant held its Galaxy Unpacked 2024 event at the SAP Center in San Jose, California, with thousands of journalists and industry professionals in attendance. It is the second time that Samsung has held its unveiling event in Silicon Valley, the home turf of its archrival, Apple.

"Since launching the world's first AI smartphone last year, Samsung has continued to lead the mobile AI market through ongoing innovation,” Roh Tae-moon, president and head of the mobile business division, said during the event.

“The newly introduced Galaxy S25 series will offer the most advanced and intuitive AI experience yet through the enhanced Galaxy AI. The Galaxy S25 series will revolutionize users' everyday lives with its mobile AI-optimized platform, One UI 7."

Upon the 2024 launch of the predecessor S24 series, Samsung declared an era of “AI-powered smartphones,” integrating a diverse range of AI features, called Galaxy AI, into its Galaxy S series for the first time.

The Galaxy S25 series is the first to feature the latest Galaxy mobile operating system, One UI 7. Aimed at delivering a more personalized AI experience, the system understands user contexts and analyzes preferences across various interaction points, including text, voice and images.

The brand-new Now Brief feature analyzes smartphone usage patterns and data to provide personalized, tailored briefings. This feature acts like a personal assistant, delivering essential information such as weather and schedules.

The latest S series has significantly upgraded its communication features, breaking down barriers to language and expression. The Live Translate feature, which provides real-time bilingual translation during calls and supports 20 languages, enabling freer communication with people worldwide.

Additionally, it introduces new features such as Call Transcript, which converts call content into text, and Call Summary, which simplifies and summarizes important points from conversations.

The Galaxy S25 series also comes with a new Writing Assist feature, powered by the advanced Galaxy AI. Users can easily and quickly access text editing features that integrate generative AI-based functions like text summarization, spellchecking and grammar correction.

The devices are powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy chips, which are designed to offer more powerful performance, including AI processing and graphics. Samsung’s image enhancement solution, mobile digital natural image, also improves image quality and visibility while enhancing power efficiency.

The Galaxy S25 series also features upgraded camera capabilities compared to its predecessor. Equipped with a high-resolution sensor and the AI-powered next-generation ProVisual Engine, the new smartphone delivers a detailed, high-quality imaging experience even from a distance.

It also introduces new AI-powered video editing features such as Audio Eraser. By using AI to classify sounds in recorded videos, users can easily remove certain kinds of sounds or adjust their volume with a simple click, enabling more professional video editing.

All three models of the Galaxy S25 series -- the standard S25 with a 6.2-inch screen, the S25 Plus with a 6.7-inch screen and the largest S25 Ultra with a 6.9-inch screen -- feature a unified design with rounded corners. For the first time, the S25 Plus and S25 incorporate recycled armor aluminum material into their frames.

The new Galaxy S series will be released in Korea on Feb 7, with preorders starting Friday.

The Galaxy S25 Ultra model’s price ranges from around 1.7 million won ($1,184) to 2.13 million won depending on the amount of storage. The price of the Galaxy S25 has been set to between 1.15 million and 1.3 million won, while the Galaxy S25 Plus is priced between 1.35 million won and 1.5 million won.

Color options for the S25 Ultra are titanium silver blue, titanium black, titanium white silver and titanium gray, while the S25 and S25 Plus will be available in four colors: silver shadow, navy, ice blue and mint. More color options will be available for customers who purchase the new phones at the company’s online shopping mall or Samsung Gangnam, its flagship store in southern Seoul.
