The Corruption Investigation Office for High-ranking Officials announced Tuesday that the 55th Security Brigade, a military unit responsible for guarding the perimeters of the presidential residence, agreed to grant investigators access to the presidential compound.
The authorities revealed that an official letter was sent to the 55th Security Brigade, requesting access to the presidential residence for the members of the joint investigative unit -- comprising the CIO, the Korean National Police Agency's National Office of Investigation, and the Defense Ministry.
The measure is thought to help the CIO investigators and police execute the second arrest warrant for Yoon, expected to take place early Wednesday.
The CIO previously sent the official documents to the Defense Ministry to inform it of legal consequences that soldiers dispatched to the Presidential Security Service -- including conscripts in the 55th Security Brigade and 33rd Military Police Brigade -- would face for blocking execution of a warrant to arrest the impeached president. The CIO also requested that the Defense Ministry take preemptive measures to prevent its soldiers from facing such penalties.
