Russia has sacked South Korean short-track coach Jang Kwon-ok from the national speedskating team for training methods which risked the athletes’ health, Russian Skaters Union president Alexei Kravtsov said on Tuesday.
The decision follows an incident in its Salt Lake City training camp last week when one of Jang’s assistants ordered a Russian skater to run 30 extra laps for adopting the wrong pose for resting while training.
Russian coaching staff chief Anatoly Brasalin overruled the punishment, leading to a protest from Jang and his Korean assistants who left the rink, issuing an ultimatum that they would only continue coaching if Brasalin was sacked. (AFP)
