A person who wishes to remain anonymous has donated about 50 million won ($44,700) in coins to a charity foundation in Ulsan.

According to the metropolitan city’s north district office on Monday, the secret donor contacted the office last month to offer the money stored in some 200 piggy banks he saved over last 40 years.

The district officials introduced the donor to a local scholarship foundation for underprivileged students in the district, which became the final destination of the piggy bank savings.

Each of the 200 piggy banks was emptied by hand upon receipt, and the resulting sum of coins and small bills amounted to 51,300,150 won.

The secret donor told the district officials that he started saving up coins 40 years ago with the purpose of donating the money to people in need at some point in the future.
