Hyundai Motor's Accent keeps best-selling status in Russia
By KH디지털2Published : Sept. 9, 2015 - 11:12
Hyundai Motor Co.'s Accent subcompact maintained its status as the best-selling model in Russia last month despite tough market conditions there, industry data showed Wednesday.
Hyundai Motor, South Korea's top automaker, sold 10,581 units of the Accent, also known as the Solaris in Russia, in August, maintaining its top spot for the second straight month, according to the data by the Association of European Business.
The vehicle kept the position in Russia in July when its sales came to 10,251 units.
During the January-August period, its cumulative sales reached 74,534 units, the second largest following the Lada Granta of a local carmaker, whose sales totaled 81,748 units.
Hyundai Motor, along with its corporate cousin, Kia Motors Corp., has been pushing to keep its market presence in Russia by maintaining production and sales as opposed to many other rival companies, which scaled down or suspended operations there as part of efforts to reduce exposure to the loss-making market.
In August, car sales in Russia dropped 19.4 percent on-year to 138,670 units. Hyundai Motor also saw its total sales in Russia shrink 6 percent to 12,584 units, data showed. (Yonhap)
