No new cases of Middle East Respiratory Syndrome have been reported over the past two days, with the country's death toll from the disease remaining unchanged for a week, the government said Tuesday.

As of Tuesday, the number of people diagnosed with the potentially deadly disease remains at 186, unchanged since Sunday, according to the Ministry of Health and Welfare.

No additional deaths from the disease have been reported over a week with the death toll currently standing at 33.

Out of the 186 people diagnosed so far, 35 remain hospitalized, while the remaining 118 have been discharged following complete recoveries.

In addition to those diagnosed, 674 other people were in isolation as suspected cases. The number dropped from 907 on the previous day.

Since the country reported the first case of MERS on May 20, over 16,300 people have been subject to isolation for possible infection after coming in close contact with MERS patients.

So far, 15,669 of them have been released after they showed no symptoms of the potentially deadly disease for more than the known maximum incubation period of 14 days.

MERS is a viral respiratory disease first reported in Saudi Arabia in 2012.

The disease had carried a very high fatality rate of over 40 percent until the outbreak here as there currently is no vaccine or treatment for the disease.

In South Korea, the fatality rate of the disease remains at 17.7 percent. (Yonhap)
