[THE INVESTOR] Renault Samsung Motors on July 1 said its sales in June surged 37.1 percent from a year earlier, driven by strong domestic demand.

The local unit of French automaker Renault said it sold a total of 23,254 cars last month, up from 16,964 units in the previous year.

The spike in sales was attributed largely to its solid domestic sales that jumped 59.6 percent to 10,778 units last month.

The company’s overseas shipments also increased 22.2 percent to 12,476 units over the cited period, the company said.

During the first half of the year, the automaker sold a cumulative 123,930 units at home and abroad, up 9.7 percent from a year earlier, the company said.

The robust sales were largely driven by the SM6 luxury sedan that was launched in March. Its accumulated sales reached 27,211 units over the past four months.
